APRS Settings

These are APRS settings that seem to work well for mobile chase and recovery teams. Please email me if you have further suggestions.

 

SETUP
Main Parameters Tab
Callsign enter your callsign
Lat enter your latitude in decimal degrees
Long enter your longitude in decimal degrees and use - west

Port 1 TNC
Baud enter your TNC baud rate
Port 1 Com 1:

Port 2 GPS
Baud 4800
Port 2 Com2: or 1 Com1: (if using an HSP)

TNC Configuration
select your TNC's initialization settings (INITKAM seems to work for KPC2s)

Via RELAY,WIDE3-3

Lists Tab
Click on Only Track This List

Program Tab
Click on the following options
SA4 (or your version of Street Atlas)
Turn pause off after menu action on position page

Now Close Setup Window

COMMANDS
Map Features
APRS Tab
Click on the following options
Include Track Lines
Bring SA to the front on new map
Include Callsigns

Center And Mag Tab
Select Max Mag and Min Mag (I use 10 and 14)

Click on the OK Button to close

COMMANDS
Clear
Click on Remove Lat/Long = 0 90 180

COMMANDS
Click on Start Street Atlas

COMMANDS
TNC Commands
Tripmate or Garmin
Select to Initialize the GPS

After your tracker begins to see telemetry from the nearcraft, then

Track Tab
Click on the callsign in the moving column that represents the nearcraft
Click on Auto Map Update

FILE
Start Logging TNC Data

Until you register your copy of APRS+SA, you will have to run through this procedure every time you start APRS+SA. Once you've registered your copy the settings you have just made will not be lost when you shut down APRS+SA.
